International Women's Day (IWD) is a time to celebrate women's achievement, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality. To mark this year's IWD, we met up with Larissa Petri, just one of the women on our Software team based in Prague.
What do you do at Ricardo?
I am part of the Software Engineering team. My job is programming and discussing solutions for the problems we need to solve.
How did you get into engineering?
I was always interested in mathematics and engineering. After finishing my studies I worked at the university for a while, but I always wanted to work in a company.
What is your biggest achievement?
Completing my PhD was a very proud moment for me and also having a career where I love what I do.
What do you love about your job?
There is always something new to learn and it provides me with constant opportunites to develop my skills.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career and how did you overcome it?
I moved to a new country for work. This was a huge change for me and I had to learn the local language and understand the culture. There was a lot to learn all at once, but I'm proud to say I better understand the people here!
Any advice for women starting their careers?
Always be yourself. And don’t be afraid to ask questions! It's the best way to learn and can save you lots of time. This is true throughout your whole career, there will always be new things to learn and people you can learn from, if you ask.
